We focus our research on different areas. First, we are running a basic science laboratory investigating sex differences in cardiovascular diseases. Our overarching goal is to better understand molecular mechanisms, dynamics, and sex-specific aspects of cardioprotection that are stimulated by regular exercise. With that, we hope we can contribute to better understanding how the benefits of exercise could be used to prevent but also treat cardiovascular diseases (for example heart failure, chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity, etc.) in a personalized manner.
In a second research stream, we apply innovative data science to gain a mechanistic understanding of gender-related health gaps and to inform the scientific community and policy about targeted and evidence-based measures to reduce burden of disease.
